How Successful is Hypnosis for Weight Loss?

Hypnotherapy for weight loss has been a proven tool for natural weight loss.  Early studies from the 90s found that people who used hypnosis lost more than twice as much weight as those who dieted without such therapy. In addition, a 2014 study was done with 60 obese women and found that those who practiced hypnobehavioral therapy lost weight, improved their eating habits and body image. A small 2017 study which included eight obese adults and three children found that all of them successfully lost weight. One participant even avoided surgery due to the treatment benefits. 

In fact, hypnosis’ ability to modify habit control and weight loss has been effective enough that the IRS now offers IRS Tax Credit for your Weight Loss and/or Smoking Cessation Hypnotherapy Programs. Check with your tax professional to see what is required to qualify. 

Effective hypnosis for weight loss is done through suggestion. Whether using self-hypnosis or traditional hypnosis with a hypnotherapist, the client is always the one in control.

How does hypnosis for weight loss work? 

Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state of body and mind.  The client learns how to relax, unlocking access to the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind controls unconscious biological processes, including hunger, cravings, and metabolism.  During hypnosis, the client’s conscious and subconscious mind learn greater self-awareness, greater self-control, and how to work together on issues and goals on the subconscious level. Frequently, emotional awareness control and expression are at the base of more serious weight issues.

Using guided imagery, a hypnotherapist can take you through a hypnotic age regression where you rewrite your life script so it feels good to exercise regularly doing something you enjoy such as dancing or bicycling. Hypnotic weight control also includes the suggestion to eat the right foods in the right amounts for you to lose excess weight and maintain a healthy weight. The human being works on the pleasure principle: the only thing you are going to do regularly is what feels good. Hypnotic suggestions can make healthy eating and exercise feel good, making natural weight control easier.  Additionally, guided imagery also aids with changing your body metabolism so you tend to lose weight rather than gain weight. Your mind gives suggestions to your body, encouraging it to cooperate with you in weight loss, from making the best use of exercise to appetite control. 

Hypnotic age regression gives your subconscious mind the option of releasing past life experiences (whether that past be in this life or one before it) contributing to the present challenge. Weight loss difficulties frequently have a past life basis, particularly when actual obesity exists. If such experiences are involved, suggestions are given for the release of the negative effects of all negative experiences attached to them.  Another technique is to rewrite the experiences themselves in a more positive way, like a rewrite of a movie scene. Some people gain weight to avoid being sexually attractive after a negative, perhaps forced, sexual experience. This can happen particularly if such an experience occurred during childhood or teen years. A rewrite might involve focusing on your own inner power to prevent such an experience in present reality rather than continuing to carry out an inner decision to be overweight and unattractive.

Can hypnosis prevent stress eating?

Absolutely.  Stress eating or emotional eating can be controlled through suggestions to react to potentially stressful situations with physical relaxation, emotional calm and mental problem-solving behavior instead of eating a box of candy or bag of chips.  Stress releases a chemical called cortisol into your body which prevents healthy, normal weight loss.  When the stress is overcome, weight loss is much easier. 

Weight loss meditation suggestions can be given which allow you to lose weight while you sleep.  One technique is to allow your subconscious mind to resolve challenges while you sleep so you sleep a deep, rejuvenating, weight releasing sleep each night, awakening with high, steady energy levels throughout day and evening. The higher energy levels encourage healthy exercise Your ability to lose weight and keep it off is greatly improved.

Self Esteem, Confidence, and Self Love: The Hypnotic Boost

Why is self-esteem important?

Self-esteem impacts virtually all aspects of your life. It affects your thinking, your emotions, and your behavior, as well as your social life and physical well being.

Self Esteem, your belief in your own self-worth, is the basis for every decision you make, every human interaction you have. Self esteem affects your coping skills, how you handle adversity, and how easily you can put the negative into perspective.

Raising your self esteem also aids in coping with stress, anxiety, and pressure. According to the American Psychological Association’s Dictionary of Psychology, Self Esteem “reflects a person’s physical self-image, view of his or her accomplishments and capabilities, and values and perceived success in living up to them, as well as the ways in which others view and respond to that person.” Which is a long-winded way of saying that self esteem is one of the primary building blocks of an individual’s personality.

Because self-esteem is so fundamental to a person, the lack of it can cause a myriad of personal and business problems.

When a person is struggling with a lack of confidence, that feeling of lack can radiate throughout every aspect of that person. The lack of a healthy self image can cause adverse outcomes during job interviews. It can put you at risk of negative relationships and abusive partners. It can have a negative effect on your health due to stress of rejection, can increase emotional eating, and have a negative effect on healthy body weight.

Lack of self confidence can cause issues with parenting children. If the child you are parenting senses your lack of self esteem, behavioral problems can appear, and the child may not be willing to take discipline. It frequently affects the child’s own self esteem as that child may model what they see a parent doing.

How does low self esteem affect children?

Teenagers have a lot of self esteem issues. Some are related to a newly discovered interest in romantic partners. Others are about academic struggles to be what they want to be as well as to please demanding parents and those making decisions about whether to accept them into the college of their choice. These situations can cause them to feel alone and frustrated. Left unaddressed, these issues will continue to arise throughout their adult lives. After a divorce or the passing of one’s mate, it can be very daunting to again be looking for your Right One. Looking back on lost career opportunities or trying to find a job after your company has downsized or gone out of business during the pandemic can damage your self worth when you need it most. Affirmations for self love, building confidence in yourself, and high, realistic self esteem are all essential for moving forward.

How do you use Hypnotherapy to improve self confidence?

I constructed a program to help clients learn how to relax, develop greater awareness, greater self control, and build their self esteem back when I started my practice in 1969—always updating and improving it. How Hypnosis Helped My Dementia Stricken Mother Remember Me.

Thank you for continuing on this journey with me. This particular set of hypnotic recordings are very special for me. With Mothers’ Day just past, I really wanted to share this story with you.

This Reach For The Stars. Today recording is one of the best I’ve ever done. My history with Memory Excellence is a very personal one. I wrote the original version: Memory Excellence for the Golden Years, while visiting my mother at a rest home on a regular basis. And I saw Alzheimer and Dementia patients who couldn’t remember their kids, couldn’t remember the names or even the people who were visiting them. I’ll be honest, I was scared that the time would come where my mother, who was suffering from dementia, wouldn’t be able to remember me either. So I originally came up with Memory Excellence, For the Golden Years, specifically for older adults.

Of course Memory is not just an older adult issue. I developed Memory Excellence, No More Senior Moments for the 40-50 year old who are still very active in their work, but occasionally have those “What did I walk into the Kitchen for?” moments, or forgetting the name of someone you met at a mixer or networking event.

And of course, long before my children and grandchildren came of age – while I was a teenager myself, working at Emile Franchel’s Hypnomercy Foundation – I started building suggestions that dealt more with things like remembering the voice of the person calling you on the phone (before caller ID), building a Photographic memory, Speed Reading, and Recording a Lecture in your Mind. This became my Memory Excellence for Students, which had more of an emphasis on test taking.

I have since combined the strongest elements of each of these recordings and turned them into Memory Excellence Life Long, giving our clients a broader boost to their memory. How to Achieve Success Through Self Hypnosis and COACHING

Self-hypnosis has proven to be an effective tool for resolving problems such as overeating, smoking, low self confidence, learning difficulties and poverty consciousness. For the last thirty?five years, I’ve used THE SEVEN KEYS TO SELF-ACTUALIZATION. While continuing the valid use of self-hypnosis in challenge resolution, this system also encourages self-discovery, expansion of personal boundaries and the learning of new skills through both the conscious and sub conscious minds. It is a systematic program of business and personal growth through hypnosis and life coaching, crafted to enable you to achieve your Highest potential in every area of your life. Below are the sort of exercises a coach might give you.

Brainstorm goal setting: SUCCESS COACHING

Think for a moment of some of your fondest dreams,becoming a real success in the career of your choice, perhaps modeling yourself on those who have created success in your field. If you are in your own business, imagine making your business the kind of success you dreamed of when you first started or the kind of success you have seen in similar businesses. If you have not yet chosen a career, you might imagine finishing your degree, educational goals, owning a business, becoming president of a successful company, starting a program to have a positive impact on your community.

Leave nothing off this first list, no matter how improbable it seems at the moment. Whether your dream is passing the million dollar point in gross sales this year or winning an Oscar, write it down. The possibilities are endless. Each of these goals can be accomplished directly or indirectly through the will to learn. The author has created an audio CD titled The Will to Learn available at author’s web site. This, along with the determination to use your knowledge to make your goals a reality, is the greatest gift of all. It can be imbedded into your subconscious mind through self hypnosis.

Be specific: FOCUS

To be effective, this desire to learn must be channeled,geared towards your specific needs rather then the gluttonous devouring of a library. In order to channel your hunger for knowledge, make a list of everything you want. Be specific. Don’t write “lots of money,” write a dollar amount. Don’t write that you want to own a boat, write the kind of boat and how big you want it. You wouldn’t take a cruise with a captain who announced he was going… “Somewhere.” How much more important is your life than some brief trip, and yet your destinations have probably been quite hazy most of the time.

Be thorough.

Drawing a sketch or finding a picture of each goal would be helpful. If a goal is not something you can picture, ask yourself “Is it abstract, or is it just too vague?” A goal must be concrete and specify a date for accomplishment if it is to leave the dream category and move into reality. Write down dates for specific action-steps for each goal, by month and year.

Prioritize: IS IT WORTH THE EFFORT?

Decide first how time-consuming each goal will be. Is becoming a doctor worth eight years of graduate and medical school, and the accompanying huge debt? If not, cross it off. Be sure you have thought out what each goal will require of you before committing yourself to it. If you are not sure what is involved in completing a goal on your list, research it. The action-steps for accomplishing each goal must be specific enough to go in your appointment calendar and if you don”t have an appointment calendar, get one now.

Evidence Procedure: HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU’VE GOT IT?

You must have an evidence procedure for knowing when each action-step and the goal itself have been accomplished. Will you see a balance of $50,000 dollars in your savings account? Will you receive the keys to your new home? Will you step on a ship for a cruise around the world with someone you love? Acknowledge and delight in the accomplished goal so you can build on that success to reach new goals. You want to own your own business. What kind of business? Will establishing it require book learning, experience, money, all three? How will you get these? Inquire into the steps used by somebody who already accomplished this particular goal. Get that information from biographies, autobiographies or, best yet, an interview with the person himself.
You can and will learn to do whatever is necessary to achieve your goals. Take as much time as necessary for making the list, researching it, and modifying it. Include only those items you are positive you want and are willing to strive for.

Now put your goals into your subconscious mind:

HOW TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS THROUGH SELF HYPNOSIS

Everything you have ever seen, heard, read, or experienced has been recorded in your subconscious mind. Through hypnosis you can program your subconscious computer to automatically make such information available at conscious need: names, faces, history lessons, teacher’s lectures or yesterday’s market quotes will appear clearly and accurately whenever you feel the need. Have you ever felt the frustration of trying to recall something you really needed and could almost get at? These techniques can almost completely eliminate that problem.

Automatic information Recall

Create a bridge between your conscious and subconscious minds–one that you can see or feel depending on whether you are more visual or more kinesthetic. Visual is the easiest way to go on this, so try it first in any case. When you go over the bridge into your subconscious mind, you’ll find index cards with information on them like those in a library. These contain the ESSENCE of everything you’ve ever seen, read, heard or experienced. Other images are a computer with screen and key board or one that will give auditory answers. Depending on your age, whether you grew up with computers or are not quite at ease with them, you will choose an appropriate mental analogue. With the information cards, you can install an automatic information retrieval system through which the correct card pops up; slides over the bridge and into consciousness each time you need to know something. The computer has its own built- in system for retrieving information. Use whatever you are used to or imagine would be ideal for you.

Suggestions for AIR (Automatic Information Recall)
I hear the question and the answer comes.
I read the question and the answer comes.
I need to know and I do know.
I see the face and I know the name. I hear the name and can see the face.

Now imagine yourself taking a test. “I am reading the question and writing the correct answer, reading the question and writing the correct answer.” Give yourself this suggestion smoothly, letting the words flow together to suggest that these two processes of reading the question and writing the correct answer have become so closely connected that they are one process, one smooth motion. When you get to the end of the test, see an ”A” or 90% grade on the page.

Photographic Memory

It is possible to develop a photographic memory — for pictures, places you have been and/or the printed word. Imagine being able to mentally photograph a Cliff’s Notes type outline of the important points of a class lecture, sales presentation or other speech…anything you need to be more successful at work or hobbies. Exact quotes and formulas can be recalled with equal ease–especially important in acting and science. Visualize a room you are familiar with, one you are less familiar with, and one you have seen only once. Imagine each of these as completely detailed as you can. This begins the development of a photographic memory by starting with something you already know how to do before moving into something you haven’t done yet. It is important here to stress the progressive ease with which you can do these visualizations, based on having PRACTICED THE TECHNIQUE rather than on how many times you have seen the object you are visualizing. The ultimate goal is for you to have exact recall of a printed page or a book you have only briefly glanced at. This is classic photographic memory. Go into your subconscious mind. See the camera. Describe to yourself how the camera works. You push a button and take a clear, accurate picture — immediately.

Now, open your eyes (going deeper as you do so) and take a picture of an object, then something printed. It is a clear accurate picture. As soon as you’ve taken that picture you close your eyes and describe the object or read the printed words from the picture you have just taken. You are not reading until you close your eyes, until then you are merely taking a picture. The purpose of the camera analogy is to encourage you to think of this technique differently from memorization. Memorization requires repetitive reading of the material one wishes to memorize. The technique you are learning requires only the time a camera takes to shoot a picture. The camera must be a Polaroid or digital because not only is the picture to be taken fast, but it “develops” and is available almost immediately as well. Be sure to take the photographs in small enough bites so that you will have some progressive improvement. If you are getting the technique rapidly, increase the size of those bites to provide some challenge here as well. Checking yourself by reading the material backward is an excellent challenge as well as a way to be sure that you are photographing the words rather than memorizing them. One good exercise is reading backward and forward from a printed page out loud. When you are actually LOOKING at the page reading backward is about as smooth as reading forward. Trying to read backward from memory is always slow and halting if you can do it at all. If you do a slow halting read, review the camera analogy. Remember that the camera does not analyze or memorize–it just takes a picture.

Always be sure to end on a positive note with yourself, doing something you originally weren’t able to so you will have a feeling of accomplishment.

PRACTICE 30 to 60 minutes daily by photographing printed material, closing your eyes and reading it into a tape recorder, then checking the recording against the printed word. It DOES require practice.

Hypnotic Sound Recording

The ability to record and accurately play back in your mind anything from a lecture to a symphony can be acquired through hypnotic techniques. You can start with recalling conversations you’ve had recently, playing them back without any “he said, she saids to make it more like a tape recording. The rest of the procedure is similar to photographic memory except that you listen to someone reading something or a recording such as the children’s See and Say books which have printed material with matching recorded stories. Play it back (verbally) using the recorder in your mind. Have a clear visualization of that instrument including both its recording and play back modes. Use tape or digital whichever you are most comfortable and familiar with.

Use Your Subconscious Mind Like a Computer

Mental data correlation–the ability to USE the information you gather and are trained to remember is also an integral part of hypnotic memory enhancement.

Overcome Test-Taking Panic

If you have difficulty passing tests or exams it could be that you simply forget the material. However, if you remember the material when doing homework or practice quizzes on your own at the end of a chapter, but not when it comes to the real thing, you may have test-taking panic. If you keep failing the Bar or a Real Estate Licensing Exam, though you do perfectly on class tests almost duplicating these important exams, you may have attached a special stress reaction to the particular situation of taking THAT exam which has been made even worse in cases where there are multiple failures on the same exam. You must release test-taking panic before memory techniques can do you much good. Hypnotic age regression can allow you to rewrite your life script so it is as though you have always taken tests easily and calmly.
